Clemson Historic Properties Summer Teacher Institute

  1. Eligibility:
  • Applicants must be K-12 teachers or other humanities-related educators currently employed at a South Carolina public or private school.
  • Applicants must be able to attend the entire duration of the institute.
  1. Application Process:
  • All applications must be submitted online by the specified deadline.
  • A complete application includes the online form, a statement of interest, and a letter of recommendation.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
  1. Selection Criteria:
  • Participants will be selected based on their statement of interest, professional background, and the potential impact on their teaching.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to integrating local history into their curriculum.
  1. Program Participation:
  • Participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions and activities.
  • Participants must actively engage in workshops, discussions, and field trips. Participants may be asked to complete daily reflections on scheduled programs.
  • Participants are required to complete any pre-institute readings or assignments.
  1. Code of Conduct:
  • Participants must adhere to Clemson University's code of conduct and policies.
  • Respectful and professional behavior is expected at all times.
  • Any form of harassment or discrimination will not be tolerated.
  1. Accommodation and Meals:
  • Accommodation and meals will be provided for the duration of the institute. Accommodation is shared housing in a duplex-style apartment community with two participants per room. Small kitchen available within the housing, should participants want to bring their own food.
  • Participants are responsible for any additional personal expenses.
  1. Travel:
  • Participants are responsible for arranging and covering the cost of their travel to and from Clemson University.
  • Clemson University will provide parking passes for participants for the duration of the institute.
  1. Liability:
  • Clemson University is not responsible for any personal injury, loss, or damage to personal property during the institute.
  • Participants are encouraged to have their own health and travel insurance.
  1. Cancellation Policy:
  • If a participant needs to cancel their attendance, they must notify the program coordinator as soon as possible.
  • Clemson University reserves the right to cancel the institute due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, participants will be notified promptly.
  1. Use of Materials:
  • Participants grant Clemson University the right to use any materials created during the institute for educational and promotional purposes.
  • Participants may use or adapt the materials developed during the institute in their own classrooms and professional settings.
  1. Privacy:
  • Personal information collected during the application process will be used solely for the purpose of selecting and contacting participants.
  • Clemson University will not share personal information with third parties without consent.
  1. Media Release:
  • By participating in the institute, participants agree that images and videos taken during the program may be used for marketing purposes, including social media.
