Accommodated Testing

Prior to receiving testing accommodations, the student must:

  • Be registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
  • Be approved for testing accommodations based on a disability-related need.
  • Have requested Faculty Notification Letters to make instructors aware of the need to implement approved testing accommodations.

It is recommended that students initiate this process as early as possible each semester, and that they engage in a discussion with their instructor to establish clear expectations regarding testing requirements.

Instructors may choose to implement approved testing accommodations in the following ways:

  • Instructor-proctored exams utilizing space within their department.
  • Allowing a student to take their exams in the University Testing and Education Center (UTEC).  If the instructor chooses to have exams proctored by the UTEC, they MUST complete an Alternative Testing Contract before a student will have an opportunity to schedule exams.

The UTEC is a supplemental service to Clemson University faculty. The center’s mission is to assist faculty in their efforts to provide accommodated testing for students who are registered with SAS and approved for accommodated testing for the current semester. Tests may only be scheduled during the center’s posted hours of operation.

UTEC Exam Requests

Once the Alternative Testing Contract has been completed by the instructor, students are authorized to use the AIM Portal to schedule their exams with UTEC. The UTEC encourages students to submit exam requests at least five business days (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) prior to the exam. An additional business day will be added to requests submitted after 4:30 p.m. or on the weekend.

Please be aware that late exam requests require approval from SAS and the UTEC. Late requests are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to the availability of UTEC staff and space.
