CAFLS Research
Scientists and students in Clemson University’s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences conduct transformative research in areas including animal production, plant science, food safety and packaging science, global food security, climate change mitigation, community development, natural resources conservation and sustainable energy production.
ResearchClemson Experimental Forest
The Clemson Experimental Forest's 17,500 acres are dedicated to education, research and demonstration in order to better understand and manage forest resources for the benefit of society. These essential resources include clean air, clean water, pleasing aesthetic qualities, abundant wildlife, protection of species and habitat diversity, recreation opportunities, along with commodity products from the forest. The forest is managed strictly for perpetual sustained or improved yield of these products.
Clemson Experimental ForestBaruch
Scientists at the Baruch Institute study coastal forested, riparian and wetland ecosystems, including wildlife, forestry, biogeochemistry, hydrology, microbiology, and sediment transport. Studies include environmental chemistry and toxicology, water quality, fluvial geomorphology, low impact development practices, stormwater treatment, and landscape ecology to help commercial developers preserve the area’s fragile ecosystems. In addition, the institute offers educational seminars for school groups and the public on the coastal environment and the importance of wise management of natural resources.
