Jeffrey Bruton has been in the music industry since the age of fifteen when he was asked to join his first performing pop/rock ensemble, some members of which were over twice his age. This experience started a trajectory that continues to unfold, and a life long love of composing, performing, music production, audio, broadcast, sound reinforcement, and entrepreneurship.

Jeffrey is a PhD candidate currently enrolled at the University of Victoria in Interdisciplinary Studies, supervised jointly by Dr. Andrew Schloss in the School of Music (Jeffrey’s home department), and by Dr. George Tzanetakis in the Department of Computer Science. He is currently writing his dissertation on advances in digital audio networking. This research includes working with staff at Audinate on the newly released Dante Embedded Protocol (“Dante as software”). In addition to the project adding to knowledge in the field, there is the real potential for the prototype he has built to become a commercial product. An example of a future grant proposal is a research project that focuses on pedagogical modifications that may positively impact intended learning outcomes and reduce time needed to achieve mastery of technical systems and techniques, specifically in the areas of audio engineering.

Jeffrey is an active, award winning professional recording engineer and producer with decades of experience producing and engineering for music production, live sound, broadcast, sound for picture, and streaming. His career thus far includes work with artists, ensembles, and musical genres spanning an incredibly diverse range; from Black Flag to Choir of the West, and Pat Travers to Marian McPartland.

Jeffrey is also an entrepreneur, and over twenty years ago founded an audio service company, GMB Technical Corporation, where he continues as CEO. The company provides audio production, recording services, and consultation to professional audio manufacturers, artists, recording studios, and live sound venues. The company is also fortunate to own and operate a full-featured mobile audio recording truck designed by Martin Pilcher in Toronto, and built by Jeffrey himself. GMB Technical is actually comprised of two sister corporations, one in the US and one in Canada, facilitating Jeffrey’s recording, production, live sound engineering, and artist mentoring activities in both the United States and Canada.

Jeffrey holds a Master’s of Music Technology degree from New York University, and his undergraduate degree focusing on music production, is from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA.
