David Askew is a history Graduate Assistant at Clemson University for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities. He is also a teaching assistant for Dr. William Terry in the Geography department. His research interests include contemporary 20th century European history after 1945, gender roles and music in Slavic culture, and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. David is hoping to earn a Ph.D. in history and his academic trajectory has developed over the last few years from studies of World War II and the Modern Middle East to the Cold War.

David became a teaching assistant after earning his Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Connecticut in 2022. For his master’s thesis, David is seeking to explore the Soviet mentality after the collapse of Communism and up to the present day. In 2020 and 2021, David served as an intern for the UConn Health Leaders program and as a Learning Community Mentor for undergraduate students. In addition, he is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society, a national history honor society. Furthermore, he was inducted into Delta Alpha Pi, an honor society which recognizes high-achieving students with disabilities, and recently became a member of the American Historical Association. He is also a member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and Delta Tau Delta.

In addition to studying history, David enjoys running, practicing martial arts, and playing pickleball.
