Guidelines for taking the exit exam
The exit exam is a graduation requirement for all Modern Languages majors, LAIB majors, and L&IH majors. It is offered during the fall and spring semesters only. It is to be taken during the student’s last semester on campus before graduation. If you will be studying abroad during your last semester, you must take it the semester prior to leaving. It must be taken during one of the proctored test sessions on campus. It is a proficiency test which assesses a student’s reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in the target language. The scoring is based on proficiency benchmarks aligned to ACTFL levels Novice through Advanced.

For ASL majors
The American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) is a holistic language evaluation offered through Gallaudet University used to determine global ASL proficiency. The ASLPI is a 20-25 minute video recorded interactive dialogue between the examinee and the interviewer done by videophone. The interview is rated by a team of evaluators and examinees are awarded an overall proficiency level on a 0-5 rating scale. More information on the details of this examination can be found at: http://www.gallaudet.edu/the-american-sign-language-proficiency-interview/aslpi
Modern Languages ASL students should email Prof. Stephen Fitzmaurice (sfitzma@clemson.edu) to schedule their respective times.
