Textbook Integration (LTI-Learning Tools Interoperability) at Clemson University
Textbook content can be integrated with Clemson Canvas instance. There are several publishers that already have an active integration setup in Canvas. These LTIs provide a single sign-on for instructors and students to access textbook assignment, assessment or other digital resources. Below is a list of textbook LTIs that have been reviewed and approved for use at system or sub-account level at Clemson University. These are available to all courses and do not require additional installation.
Textbook integration at system level:
- Cengage Learning MindLinks
- Evolve (Elsevier)
- Macmillan Learning

Some of these LTI integrations may be hidden from course navigation menu. To enable it, go to Course Settings, click the Navigation tab, drag or drop the LTI integration from the bottom list to the top list or by opening the item menu and choose Enable, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save button.
Depending on how a LTI integration is installed and configured, some may not be available to enable to the course navigation menu but appear under External Tool List to create an assignment via external tool submission type.
New Textbook Integration Request
System or Sub-account
Any new textbook integration request to the system or a sub-account must go through a security and data privacy review to meet the university information technology standards as well as accessibility compliance. Review and testing will be conducted to ensure appropriate functionality. To start the process, go to the CCIT vendor management website and click on the “Register IT Solution” button.
Individual Course
If you are adopting a new textbook that has digital resources and would like to use only in your own course, please check with the publisher support to ensure the integration complies with the security and accessibility guidelines. If accessibility compliance is not met, an equally effective alternative access plan will be needed for students with disabilities in your Canvas course.
Technical Support
CCIT and Clemson Online Support
It is the instructor’s responsibility to obtain any key and secret required for the new installation. If you run into an issue with the installation or the LTI does not work properly in your course, submit a ticket to ithelp@clemson.edu with the course and LTI information.
Publisher Support
Canvas support team at Clemson University has limited access to the textbook publisher content. If you have any further issues such as student registration and access, assignment or assessment setup and deployment, grade synchronization, etc., it is recommended to contact the publisher technical support for assistance.
