Saeed Farahani joined Clemson University in 2023 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Automotive Engineering and the Associate Director of Clemson Composites Center. Prior to joining CUICAR, he was an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University since 2021. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University and a Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering (manufacturing field) from Clemson University.

His research is primarily in the field of advanced manufacturing, particularly in the areas of hybrid and smart manufacturing systems. His research has integrated analytical models, numerical simulations, statistical and machine learning methods, sensors, and industrial IoT solutions to advance manufacturing systems for composites and multi-material/functional components. In the hybrid manufacturing track, his current research focuses on the intersection of additive manufacturing with conventional processes and in-mold electronics. In the smart manufacturing track, his research interests are centered on developing connected manufacturing systems and taking advantage of them to promote a circular economy.

Farahani has more than 10 years of working in the industry in the roles of engineer, technical manager, and entrepreneur. His industrial experience includes designing and supervising the fabrication of more than 200 special tools and machinery for plastics, composites, and sheet metal parts, and manufacturing optimization for several mass-produced products such as polymeric cages for bearings and special fasteners for high-performance applications

Farahani also serves as an associate editor for the SAE Journal of Sustainable Transportation, Energy, Environment, & Policy (STEEP), the chair of the Advanced Materials Manufacturing Technical Committee in the ASME Manufacturing Engineering Division, and a board member of the Injection Molding Division in Society of Plastic Engineering.
