Professional
Prior to 1991 when he joined the Clemson University faculty, Dr. Martin worked for the Electromagnetic Application Center within the TRW Space and Technology Group as a project engineer and lead analyst. Presently, he is an Associate Professor within the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Clemson University.
Dr. Martin has served on numerous technical program committees for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposia. He has also served as a Technical Session Chair at several meetings and as a Reviewer for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION. He was a member of the steering committee for the 1998 Electromagnetic Theory Symposium. He also served on the steering committee as Technical Program Co-chair for the 1998 IEEE AP-S International Symposium. In 1999, he served as a co-convener for the 1999 URSI General Assembly of Commission B. From 1998 to 2001, he was an Associate Editor the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION. He has also served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE ANTENNAS AND WIRELESS PROPAGATION LETTERS (AWPL) since its inception and is the Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE AP-S Digital Archive. He also serves as a member of the AP-S Education committee, was a member of AP-S Ad-Com from 2000 to 2003, and is now General Chair for the 2009 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium and USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting to be held in Charleston, SC.
Research Interests
Dr. Martin's research interests are in Wideband & Switched Antennas, EM Penetration into Electronic Devices, and Efficient Electromagnetic Computational Methods. He has been working on the development of numerical techniques for the analysis of electrically large objects and on problems involving signal coupling and penetration. Other major components of his research include the development of broadband antennas for wireless communications and finite element modeling of microwave absorber. Prof. Martin's research is sponsored by the US Army Research Office, the U.S. Air Force Phillips Labs, and Voss Scientific (Edwards AFB).
