Academic
Dr. Xiaolong Ma received the B.E. degree in Communication Engineering from Yanshan University, China, in 2014, the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Syracuse University in 2016, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University in 2022. In August 2022, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University as an assistant professor.
He won the contributed article in CACM, the Spotlight presentation in NeurIPS, and the Best Paper Award in ICLR workshop of Hardware-Aware Efficient Training of Deep Learning Models. His research works have been published in top conference/journal venues including NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICLR, ECCV, AAAI, IJCAI, ASPLOS, ISCA, MICRO, DAC, CACM, TNNLS, etc. He has also served as TPC member for many ACM/IEEE conferences.
Research Interests
Dr. Ma has broad research interests spanning from the theory to the application aspects of machine learning (ML). Most recently, he studies deep neural networks (DNNs) model compression with sparsity and low-bit quantization, efficient deep learning algorithms for training/inference acceleration, mobile/edge device computation, optimization, as well as their applications in various computer vision tasks.
