Biography
Martine LaBerge serves as Professor and Chair of Bioengineering at Clemson University and Executive Director of the Biomedical Engineering Innovation Campus (CUBEInC) in Greenville, SC. She received MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Montreal, and completed post-doctorate work in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, before joining Clemson in 1990 as Assistant Professor of Bioengineering. She has numerous publications on the tribological performance of orthopaedic and vascular implants and is an inventor on several licensed patents. Since the beginning of her career, she has served as the major advisor of 80 PhD and MS bioengineering students and managed a research program exceeding $15 M. She received the South Carolina Governor’s Award for Scientific Awareness for the development of major programs in the state. She served as President of the Society For Biomaterials (SFB) and received its Inaugural Service Award. She is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and served as the secretary-treasurer of the AIMBE Academic Council. She was inducted Fellow, Biomaterials Science and Engineering by the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering. She is a past Board Director of the Biomedical Engineering Society and currently serves as the Chair of the BMES 50th Anniversary committee. She is a board member of SCBIO and Clemson University Research Foundation.
