1863 copper alloy 12-pounder U.S. Napoleon tube at Porter-Gaud School
In 2013 the Warren Lasch Conservation Center was commissioned by the National Park Service to perform conservation treatment on an 1863 copper alloy 12-pounder U.S. Napoleon tube, which is located at the Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, SC.
As part of the treatment plan, Conservators cleaned the tube and then applied a protective wax coating. As part of the maintenance agreement, Conservators travel to the Porter-Gaud School every year to assess the condition of the tube and the protective coating and to reapply wax as needed.
Conservators have performed maintenance on the tube every year since 2013.
