Description
This committee is a cohort of women faculty members who work to sustain the ADVANCE goals of gender equity, retention, and support. The primary goal is to provide oversight for the Senior Tiger Advocates, a committee of men faculty who provide gender bias training for men advocates and work to address gender inequities across the university. MISSION STATEMENT The Advocate Advisory Board (“the Board”) is a cohort of women faculty members at Clemson University who formed to realize and sustain the ADVANCE goals and objectives. The Board’s primary goal is to advise, coordinate, and provide oversight for the Senior Tiger Advocates, as well as to structure their leadership composition and establish an institutionally-validated role for their service. The Board will institutionalize the Tiger Advocates program, publicizing and garnering credit for advocates’ work duties as a mechanism to address ingrained inequities. The committee works directly with the administration to support the mission of Tigers Advance to transform the institution through gender equity, retention, and support. PURPOSE & IMPLEMENTATION The Board exists for several reasons, the most important of which is to coordinate with, advise, and provide resources, women’s perspective, and guidance to the Senior Tiger Advocates at Clemson University. The Board will ensure that the Tiger Advocate activities correspond to and align with the ADVANCE goals and objectives. In addition to selecting the new Senior Advocates through an internally-established vetting process, the Board will serve as the liaison between the Tiger Advocates and the ADVANCE team, other women faculty on campus, senior University administration, and the Office of Access and Equity. The Board will generate and advance policies that promote a gender-sensitive and more egalitarian working environment at Clemson University. The Board will also guide the Tiger Advocates. The Board will collect case studies from Clemson faculty and staff that exemplify the campus climate surrounding gender equity, and will share these experiences with the Senior Advocates and ADVANCE initiative to inform workshops and policy initiatives.
This committee is authorized by the Clemson University Committee on Committees. Changes to its description or composition should be initated with the Faculty Senate Office.
