About

Dr. Alex Cojanu completed his undergraduate studies at The College of William and Mary and a Masters in Anatomy and Neurobiology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he completed research in the field of multisensory processing of neurons. He attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at the Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Cojanu is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He currently serves asthe Vice Chair of Medical Staff Affairs and Quality for the Department of Psychiatry, Prisma Upstate and works clinically as an Emergency Psychiatrist.

How their research is transforming health care

Dr. Cojanu’s research interests include Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Acute Care management of behavioral health emergencies (including both psychiatric illness as well as substance use, abuse, intoxication, and withdrawal syndromes) and substance use disorders. Combined, these topics cover some of the more prevalent disease processes and issues plaguing today’s healthcare landscape.
