Jonathan L. Gleason serves as executive vice president, chief clinical officer for Prisma Health. He has broad responsibilities for the clinical and academic mission of the largest healthcare organization in South Carolina. Prior to joining Prisma Health, Dr. Gleason served in progressive leadership roles in large academic health systems, including holding the endowed James D and Mary Jo Danella Chief Quality Officer position for Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.Dr. Gleason began his career as a physician-scientist focused on clinical research in his field of medicine. Dr. Gleason has emerged an innovative thought leader in healthcare improvement with national recognition for his teams work from the National Quality Forum Next Generation Innovator Award, the ECRI National Patient Safety Award, and improvements in CMS hospital star ratings. Within the past year, he has been cited or published in the Wall Street Journal, the World Economic Forum, the New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst, the Governance Institute, Modern Healthcare and many others. Dr. Gleason’s work in healthcare improvement has also resulted in deep involvement in development of process and outcome metrics of care delivery and health equity.

Dr. Gleason is a thought leader in the design and delivery of healthcare to people with disabilities, and his landmark publication in the NEJM Catalyst describing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on individuals with intellectual disabilities resulted in civil rights lawsuits, and ultimately, changes in vaccine prioritization around the world for this vulnerable population.
