About

Laura Stanley is an associate professor and graduate program coordinator for the Department of Industrial Engineering, and the director of the Human Interaction Lab.

Prior to working at Clemson, she was an associate professor and director of the human factor engineering lab at Montana State University-Bozeman. She also served as a program director in the directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) in the Cyber Human Systems Program at the National Science Foundation.

She’s had research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, Montana Department of Transportation United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Murdock Charitable Trust, General Motors, Volvo, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association, Engineering Information Foundation, and Greenville Health System.

She has a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Montana State University, her master’s degree in industrial and management engineering from Montana State University and her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Virginal Technical College.

How their research is transforming health care

As the director of the Human Interaction Lab, she recently received two GHS seed grants;oOne entitled, “Efficacy of Virtual Reality for Operative Pain and Anxiety Management,” and the second entitled, “Longitudinal Study to Assess Virtual Reality for Pain and Anxiety Management in Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Patients.” With these projects, she will transform health care using innovative technologies, specifically virtual reality.
