About

Dr. Casey Hopkins is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Clemson University in Clemson, SC. She has been a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner since 2010 and keeps an active clinical practice in the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Prisma Health in Greenville, SC. Dr. Hopkins’ research interests include women’s and female adolescent health, including aspects of reproductive and sexual health and physical activity, health disparities among women with disabilities, and improving health outcomes with community-driven research initiatives. Dr. Hopkins holds appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of South Carolina School of Medicine- Greenville and Faculty Associate in the Center for Research on Health Disparities of Clemson University School of Nursing. She is a trained “Girlologist” with Girlology®, a national organization providing puberty and sexual health education to girls and their families. Dr. Hopkins serves on the editorial advisory board for Women’s Healthcare: A Clinical Journal for NPs, the official journal of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. Dr. Hopkins is also a trained sexual assault forensic examiner and is part of a federal grant-funded team consisting of scholars from Prisma Health, Clemson University, and other institutions working to improve the care of sexual assault survivors in South Carolina. Dr. Hopkins actively collaborates with Prisma Health clinicians and Clemson University colleagues in bioengineering, industrial engineering, nursing, and education in health-related research initiatives.

How their research is transforming health care

Dr. Hopkins is passionate about addressing health disparities with community-driven research initiatives. She connects her research, clinical practice at Prisma Health, and her teaching within the School of Nursing of Clemson University to address relevant clinical problems. She is currently working with multidisciplinary teams to advance the state of science surrounding reproductive health education and care access for girls and women with disabilities to positively impact health outcomes. Additionally, Dr. Hopkins’ work with female adolescents in the areas of goal setting, puberty and sexual health education, and physical activity and lifelong fitness is transforming healthcare as she concentrates on the intersection between our cultural and societal influences and the health sciences.
