Olga Kuksenok is currently an Associate Professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Clemson University. She was formerly a Research Associate Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. She received her Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev, Ukraine, in 1997. Kuksenok's research interests and accomplishments span the following areas of materials science: elastodynamics of responsive polymer gels, dynamics of multi-component polymer blends, biomimetic materials, pattern formation in non-equilibrium chemical systems, complex fluids dynamics, and theory of heterogeneous liquid crystalline systems. She has co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and 9 book chapters. Her work is actively cited; her h-index is 31 with the total number of citations over 3000 (source: Google scholar).

How their research is transforming health care
Hydrogels are used in variety of health-related applications, from gel-based drug delivery to hydrogels used to promote wounds healing. Kuksenok is interested in fundamental aspects of gel’s dynamics and their behavior as relevant to various aspects transforming health care. One of research directions in her group is mesoscale modeling of controlled degradation in hydrogels, which is of particular relevance to drug delivery and tissue engineering applications.
