About

Feng Luo currently is a full Professor in the School of Computing at Clemson University. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Dallas, 2004. He was a post-doctoral senior research associate at the Department of Pathology of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

His research interests are big data analytics, bioinformatics, medical informatics, data mining machine learning, and deep learning. Currently, he is focusing on deep learning and applications, big data analytics algorithm and system, social media data analysis, high-throughput biological data analysis, computational genomics and glycomics, disease diagnosis and bioinformatics. He has published 64 journal articles and 31 conference papers in these areas.

How their research is transforming health care

Feng’s research group has collaborated with faculty at MUSC on medical image analysis. Through developing new deep learning-based methods, his group has constructed a new classifier for disease diagnostics using the medical image. His group also is working with other faculties on bullying detection using social media data.
