Clemson University has established three funding initiatives to nurture collaboration with Battelle Savannah River Alliance (BSRA)/Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). These initiatives will help researchers acquire equipment; recruit, hire and train graduate student researchers; and recruit, hire and train research scientists or postdoctoral researchers who are not currently affiliated with Clemson University.
More details on eligibility, funding amounts and periods, proposals instructions and other information is posted in the calls for proposals for each initiative below. If you have any questions, please send an email to rifunds@clemson.edu.
As a result of the effects of Hurricane Helene in our area, proposal deadlines have been extended for the CU-SRNL ELI and CU-SRNL Scholars programs.
Equipment/Lab Infrastructure Initiative
The Clemson University-Savannah River National Laboratory Equipment/Lab Infrastructure (CU-SRNL ELI) Initiative provides financial support to Clemson University researchers for the purchase, replacement, or upgrade of major research equipment that increases and enhances research collaboration between Clemson University and Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). For the purposes of this initiative, major research equipment is defined as a unit having a useful life of at least five years and an acquisition cost of more than $50,000. Deliverables must include purchase and installation of equipment. Proposals are due by Monday, October 7, 2024 by 4:30 pm.
Graduate Student Support Initiative
The Clemson University-Savannah River National Laboratory Graduate Student Support (CU-SRNL GSS) Initiative assists faculty, academic departments, colleges, centers, and institutes in recruiting, hiring, and training qualified graduate student researchers. Hired students will be trained as the next generation of workers to meet the SRNL’s needs, as well as to collaborate with SRNL scientists to attract competitive research funding from federal agencies and industries. Proposals are due by Wednesday, November 6, 2024 by 4:30 p.m.
Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Scholar Initiative
The Clemson University-Savannah River National Laboratory Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Scholar (CU-SRNL Scholar) Initiative assists faculty, academic departments, colleges, centers, and institutes in recruiting, hiring, and training qualified new research scientists or postdoctoral researchers who are not currently affiliated with Clemson University. Researchers may be hired to conduct research projects in collaboration with Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), with the goal of increasing partnership between the university and SRNL. Proposals are due by Friday, October 18, 2024 by 4:30 pm.
