The initial pledge from Ken and Mary Cadden in June 2016 set in motion one of Clemson University’s most impressive fundraising efforts. In just three years, more than $7 million has been raised in support of the Samuel J. Cadden Chapel, which will be located between the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, Strom Thurmond Institute and the Watt Family Innovation Center — in the heart of Clemson’s campus. When completed, the venue will seat approximately 125 people.

As the Caddens worked tirelessly to raise additional funds to move this project forward, several pillar donors have contributed significant pledges of at least $500,000 to accelerate fundraising for the chapel — Charles and Susan Barker, Ashley Johnson, Roy McCall and Melvin Younts. Without their generosity, this project would not have moved forward nearly as quickly.

“As Sam’s loving parents, Ken and Mary chose to celebrate his life in a way that will fulfill one of the goals he had set for himself,” said President James P. Clements. “And they chose to do so in an way that will touch hearts and lift the spirits of countless generations of future Clemson students.”
