Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)
Mission and Purpose:
Clemson University is committed to providing a learning environment that is conducive to students developing to their fullest potential. The university provides a systematic response to students who may be in crisis or whose physical, mental, or psychological health condition may directly threaten their safety or the safety of the learning environment. Through this team, the university provides a caring, private program of identification, intervention and response in order to provide students with the greatest chance for success, and the University community with the greatest level of protection. The team, known as the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), will abide by appropriate processes, policies, and procedures. These processes, policies, and procedures do not replace and academic-based withdrawal or dismissal policies or any Community and Ethical Standards procedures to address student disciplinary issues.

How to Make a BIT Referral:
Any member of the Clemson, or surrounding, community who has a concern for the well-being or safety of a student (and/or faculty/staff) of the University or surrounding community, or who has reason to believe that a student (and/or faculty/staff) may pose a direct threat to himself/herself or to the community, may refer the student to the Behavioral Intervention Team.
Referrals can be made by completing and submitting an online referral form, the CARE Report Form. A CARE Report Form should only be submitted for non-urgent situations. All urgent situations should be directed to Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) at 911 or 864-656-2222.
Referrals can also be made by contacting any member of the Behavioral Intervention Team.
