Microbiology (Rising 9th-12th)
A study of the fundamental principles of microbiology with an emphasis placed on those microorganism directly related to health problems. Topics include structure, epidemiology, and diagnostic procedures for identification.
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Identify and describe the different types and modes of infection/transmission, and methods of eradicating bacteria, virus, fungi, and parasites
- Describe and demonstrate an understanding of the methods and diagnostic tools to identify and control the infectious organism(s) as they apply to humans
- Describe and discuss the interactions between the infectious organisms and the human host
- Demonstrate safety and aseptic techniques and methods to reduce transmission of infectious diseases
