Endangered in the wild, the tiger is a symbol of Clemson University’s pride and passion. Help us save wild tigers before they go extinct.
Around 5,000 tigers exist in the wild, worldwide (roughly 95% less than an estimated 100,000 in the early 1900s). Tigers are classified as Endangered (EN) by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Four of nine tiger sub-species have been lost to extinction, forever.
The $20 billion poaching industry, a 93% decrease in range territory and various human-tiger conflicts contribute to the plight of wild tigers, among other threats.
Tigers United partners with the Global Tiger Forum (GTF), an inter-governmental, international body working exclusively for the conservation of tigers in the wild. Clemson has also partnered with faculty at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), scientists at RESOLVE NGO, WWF-India and others. We are grateful for the support of our community.
“Tragically, our mascot is in danger. It is through your support that Clemson will continue to lend its expertise toward the preservation of this magnificent species.”
-Brett Wright, Ph.D., Tigers United director
