Our Mission
The mission of Clemson Adaptive Sports and Recreation is to provide evidence that informs decisions about adaptive sport programming and enhances outcomes associated with involvement in those programs.
Our members implement high-quality adaptive sport programming and conduct applied research, locally, nationally and internationally, that addresses issues faced by:
- Adaptive sport and recreation managers
- Front-line service providers
- Educators
- Policy officials
- Participants
Our Research
In an effort to fulfill Clemson Elevate's Living Priority specific to sustaining athletics, wellness and recreation programs, and achieving inclusive excellence, the vision of Clemson Adaptive Sports and Recreation is to be the leader in applied research and programming associated with adaptive sports, recreational therapy, and other disability-sport related topics.
Clemson Adaptive Sports and Recreation is guided by the following goals:
- To develop and disseminate knowledge through the form of publications, presentations, and programs, with the intent to:
- offer solutions to issues regarding adaptive sport and recreation programming and attitudes/approaches towards individuals with disabilities
- describe and explore the current state of adaptive sport and recreation programming and management
- determine evidence-based and best practices for adaptive sport and recreation programming and management.
- To promote inclusive excellence by increasing awareness about individuals with disabilities through adaptive or disability-sport research.
- To provide high-quality programming, locally, nationally and internationally, that facilitates the participation of individuals with and without disabilities in sport and recreation activities together.
- To contribute to the development of the Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion research cluster in areas focused on access, inclusivity, and barriers and facilitators to adaptive sport and recreation participation.
