Undergraduate Students

What does it mean to be an undergraduate non-degree seeking student?

As a non-degree seeking student, you can enroll in a limited number of undergraduate credit hours and be classified with a non-degree status. Examples of non-degree seeking students include:

  • High school students wishing to dual enroll in pre-approved courses
  • Individuals wishing to take courses for personal enjoyment and professional development
  • Individuals needing prerequisites for professional schools

If you are interested in graduate studies at Clemson and need undergraduate prerequisite courses, you should apply as non-degree through the Clemson Graduate School.

The non-degree status is not a "trial admission" status and students who have been denied regular admission are not eligible.

How to Apply as a Non-Degree-Seeking Student

  1. Review important dates and deadlines.
  2. Complete the application
  3. Pay the application fee.
There is a nonrefundable $40 application fee. Clemson accepts all major credit cards.

The number of undergraduate credit hours that can be taken as a non-degree-seeking student may vary by program, but no more than 18 semester hours will be allowed. Once you reach the credit hour limit, you must apply to a degree-seeking program to take additional courses.

Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Students

What does it mean to be an undergraduate non-degree seeking student?

Admission to the “non-degree” category is limited primarily to those who may benefit professionally from additional study at the graduate level. Students working towards a teaching certificate or recertification or an add-on certificate to augment professional credentials would be non-degree students. As a non-degree student, you must receive permission from the program coordinator or the department chair of your program before you enroll in any graduate course.

How to become a graduate non-degree seeking student

If you wish to apply as a graduate non-degree student, you must complete an application for Graduate Admission.

Supporting Material

In general, the only supporting material you’ll need for non-degree admission is a transcript showing an appropriate background and confirming the awarding of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Please confirm you have the appropriate materials with the department you’re applying to. In most cases, international students are not eligible for non-degree status.
