Michael joined Hughes Development in 2018 after several years practicing commercial real estate at two prominent law firms in Greenville, SC (Wyche & Nexsen Pruet). During his time in private practice, Michael primarily represented property owners and developers across a wide spectrum of legal matters. He has significant experience assisting with property acquisitions and dispositions, large-scale financing, corporate formation, enterprise restructuring, and complex commercial leasing.
At Hughes Development, Michael serves as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. In this role, he provides strategic advice on company directives and their implementation, along with day-to-day management of the company’s assets, legal operations, and HR needs. Additionally, he is responsible for executing complex business objectives at the direction of the President and the Chairman. He is a licensed real estate broker, title agent and member of the South Carolina Bar.
Michael graduated from Furman University as a Hollingsworth Scholar, before attending Vanderbilt University Law School on a Dean’s Scholarship. As a Greenville native, Michael enjoys raising his two girls, Addy (4) and Ella (7), with his spouse in the North Main area of town.
