Ms. Ryan is a native of Charleston and works as a decorative arts appraiser with Alice L. Patrick and Associates, Inc. Previously, she worked as a historical archaeologist and served as Director of Museums for Historic Beaufort Foundation in Beaufort, S.C., where she conducted research on collections, planned and developed exhibits, and coordinated acquisitions. She earned her M.A. from the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture where her thesis focused on the historic interiors and decorative arts collections of the Aiken-Rhett House. She currently serves as a board member for the Preservation Society of Charleston and has served on the Beaufort County Historic Preservation Review Board and the Tourism Management Advisory Commission for the City of Beaufort. Her additional research has included in-depth study of decorative arts and historic interiors in collaboration with the Winterthur Museum in Delaware and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in North Carolina.
Ms. Ryan has also taught undergraduate classes on Historic American Interiors for the College of Charleston and is an instructor in the Master Preservationist Program in conjunction with the Preservation Society of Charleston. She teaches the course on Historic Interiors with a specific focus on Charleston interiors and material culture.
