Addison Horton is a second year Digital History PhD student and teaching assistant at Clemson University. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in History at Clemson in 2023. Her research focuses on efforts to obtain divorce in the 19th century South. She intends to map the language used in divorce petitions, hoping to illuminate pockets of activity and the sharing of strategies. Her research interests include Digital History, Gender Studies, and Social History. Addison is working on creating a dataset for her divorce petitions project. She is paying particular attention to the causes cited for divorce requests, the courts or legislatures that were petitioned, and whether or not the petitioner was a slaveholder. She ultimately intends to investigate this dataset in R, as well as geolocate activity on a county level.
