Lactation Room Guidelines
Per federal law, Clemson University is required to provide a clean, private, non-bathroom space for nursing mothers to express breastmilk during work. A private office space may serve as a lactation room. Private offices will not be listed on the Lactation Network page, and their maintenance is the responsibility of employees/student workers.
Clemson recommends that rooms used for lactation maintain these minimum accommodations:
- Lockable room
- Basic “in use” signage
- Access to a nearby clean water source and a sink
- Chair and table
- Comfortable room temperature
- Trash can
- Paper towels
- Adequate lighting
- Electrical outlet
