Why have I been selected for Clemson University Jury Duty?

Any person who is a registered voter and whose address is within a five-mile radius of Tillman Hall on Clemson University's campus is eligible to serve on a jury for the Clemson University Municipal Court. This jurisdiction includes parts of Oconee, Pickens and Anderson counties. 

What kind of cases does the Clemson University Municipal Court hear in Jury Trials?

Cases heard in Jury Trials within Clemson University's Municipal Court are primarily traffic cases and misdemeanor criminal cases.

How can I be exempted from Jury Duty? 

The following reasons are fitting criteria to be exempt from serving as a Municipal Court juror:

  • If you are 65 years or older and wish to be excused from jury duty

  • If you are the primary caregiver for a person 65 years or older who cannot care for themselves or for a disabled person

  • If you are the primary caregiver and legal guardian of a child under the age of 7

  • If you have served on Clemson University Municipal Court's jury during the past year 

You may be disqualified from jury duty if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • If you are not a U.S. citizen

  • If you cannot read, write, speak or understand English

  • If you have less than a 6th-grade education 

  • If you have a mental or physical condition that prevents you from serving

  • If you are a convicted felon

  • If you work in a court capacity

What can I expect when I report to Court?

You should report to the courtroom or juror room as instructed.The juror's roll will be called. You should be prepared to stand and give your name, occupation and if married, your spouse's occupation. The judge may, then, ask further questions to determine if you are an eligible juror.
