ProfileDr. Cranmer joined the Clemson family in 2016. He is a prolific scholar who is passionate about connecting research and application within the classroom. He seeks to blend Clemson's historical excellence as an undergraduate university with its Research-1 present/future. His notable service positions include: Athletic Council (2023-2024), Faculty Senate (2022-Current), Chair of the Finance and Infrastructure Committee for Faculty Senate (2023-2024), Clemson University's Task Force on Dependent Tuition Remission (2022-2023), Chair/Planner of the Communication & Sport Division for the National Communication Association (2022), Planner for the International Association for Communication & Sport's 2021 Summit, and editorial board member for Communication Monographs (2025-Current), Communication & Sport (2019-Current), International Journal of Sport Communication (2025-Current), Communication Research Reports (2019-Current), and Management Communication Quarterly (2024-Current). He is also a faculty fellow of the Robert H. Brooks Sports Science Institute (2017-current) and a research fellow of the US Center for Mental Health & Sport (2021-Current). Dr. Cranmer conducts professional consulting focused on fostering practical communication skills and assisting individuals in adjusting to new groups and roles. He has worked with Clemson's Paw Journey and the Atlantic Coast Conference in this capacity. | |
Research InterestsDr. Cranmer's research focuses on how we can provide meaningful and safe experiences for athletes through coaching, health interventions, and socialization. He has secondary interests in the role of social media in public understanding of social, political, and organizational issues that intersect with sports.
