Wendell Voiselle
I grew up in the small town of Ninety Six, SC and graduated from Clemson in 1979 with a B.S. degree in Microbiology. Afterward, I went to work at a large-scale fermentation plant in Kingstree, SC, in September of 1980. I began my career there in Quality Control but moved to Production Department, where I was responsible for all culture preparation and fermentation monitoring. The original company I worked for was a Dutch-owned company called GBFI which was part of Gist Brocades. This was a gratifying career as I was exposed to many different fermentations from bacterial and fungal, nematode, and microalgae, as well as the downstream processing units. The company's names changed several times, but the work was much the same. Working with FermPro and, finally, Martek and DSM, we focused primarily on DHA and ARA for ingredients in infant formulas.
I have been a member of the Professional Advisory Board for Biosystems Engineering at Clemson for many years. I also had the pleasure of working with Professor Caye Drapcho before my work in the PAB on a curriculum project geared toward towards students in bioprocessing studies. I look forward to working with you all.
