Profile/About Me
Renée Lyons earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction of science education from Clemson University in 2017. Renée taught K-12 science for eight years, both internationally and in Upstate South Carolina. As a public high school teacher, she gained a deep passion for creating high-quality, equitable science learning for all students. This passion led her to focus her Ph.D. research on how to broaden participation in science and address barriers to equity. After completing her Ph.D., she accepted a position with the South Carolina Department of Education, where she led science standards and learning for the state. Renée currently leads programming for the Science Outreach Center (field trips, summer STEM camps, and after-school programming). She is excited to serve as PI for an NSF funded project entitled "My STEM My Story." This project involves the development of a graphic novel and an after-school STEM Club, which are used to nuture positive science identities with African American youth.
