Educational Background

Ph.D., Botany, University of Florida, 2013
B.Sc., Biological Sciences, Catholic University of Ecuador, 2000

Profile/About Me

Native to Ecuador, I have made Clemson and South Carolina my home. I received my undergrad education in Ecuador and my doctorate at the University of Florida in Gainesville. I have loved plants since I was a kid and have a special interest in plant diversity. With so many endemic plants, this area of South Carolina is a botanist dream.

Research Interests

I am a plant systematist interested in selected orchid and gymnosperm groups. I am originally from Ecuador, and my research questions have been centered on the evolution of selected orchid groups that inhabit the montane forests of the Andes. I use a variety of methods to answer my questions.

Courses Taught

Plant Taxonomy BIOL 4060, 4070, 6060, 6070
Senior Seminar BIOL 4930
I support activities in other plant-related classes and outreach events or summer camps as part of my service as the Herbarium Curator.
