International Medical Insurance
What you need to know
All students participating in a study abroad program or other university-affiliated international travel (student organizations, international co-op or internship, dissertation research, university-funded travel, etc.) are required to enroll in international medical insurance per the directions below. Please review CISI Insurance FAQs, CISI Insurance COVID-19 related FAQs and AXA Vaccination-specific Travel FAQs.
Faculty-Directed Programs
Faculty-Directed program participants do not need to independently purchase international insurance coverage. Insurance for the dates of the faculty-directed program is included in the Faculty-Directed Program Cost. Students are registered for Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) international emergency medical insurance by the Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad. Once a student is enrolled in the CISI policy, they may contact CISI to purchase additional coverage for travel dates outside the program dates if needed.
Exchange Programs
Students participating in exchange programs are required to register for CISI international emergency medical insurance in addition to any national insurance requirements that their host institution may require. The process and steps for enrolling in CISI Insurance under Clemson's Group Policy will be outlined in the post-decision phase of your online application.
Approved Third Party Program Coverage
Students participating in approved third-party provider programs may waive purchase of the CISI international emergency medical insurance, if desired. All students must submit proof of third party insurance enrollment as part of their online application. The table below outlines our approved providers and which insurance policies Clemson University has approved. The process and steps for enrolling in CISI Insurance under Clemson's Group Policy will be outlined in the post-decision phase of your online application.
