Chapman Leadership Scholars Spotlights
Luther Bells, current Chapman Leadership Scholar, was selected as one of eight Clemson students to participate in the FLORECE USDA-sponsored 8-week internship in a research lab in Spain from May 5 to July 11. He was also selected as one of five students to represent Clemson University at the ACC Leadership Symposium. This year, the event will be held at Florida State University from Feb. 7-9, 2025.
Alyssa Neff, a marketing major and Thomas F. Chapman Leadership Scholar, was invited to share the results from two studies connected to her honors thesis at the Society of Marketing Advances (SMA) Conference. SMA is an international marketing organization with members from around the world. Neff is working with Mike Giebelhausen, associate professor of marketing, preparing the results for a special issue on AI in marketing education for the Marketing Education Review. The key finding was that, compared to crowdsourced platform workers (e.g., MTurk), marketing students report higher levels of fear towards AI-enabled marketing. This is counter-intuitive (and concerning) because these AI-tactic are poised to become important tools for marketers in the near future. Her analysis identified two primary themes: Fear of misuse by others and student's fears that AI would devalue the skills they had acquired. This highlights the need for marketing educators to develop novel approaches to reducing fear of AI among marketing students.
Three Chapman Leadership Scholars, Ben Dority, Kylie Foley and Alex Sauer, were initiated into Blue Key, an honor society at Clemson University. They join two other Chapman Leadership Scholars, John Shoemaker and Kellan Fenegan, who are members of Blue Key, and Mary Anne Raymond, Ph.D., the Thomas F. Chapman Professor of Leadership, an honorary member of Blue Key.
Blue Key serves Clemson University students, faculty, staff and the local community. Members of Blue Key demonstrate excellent exemplary leadership, service, scholarship and character.
Ivey Gray was this year's keynote speaker at the Better Business Bureau of the Upstate's Student of Integrity Awards dinner in Greenville for high school seniors. As a previous winner four years ago, she had a wonderful message for this year's six winners. What a great representative of Clemson University and the Thomas F. Chapman Leadership Scholars Program!
Ben is a senior marketing and management major from Simpsonville, SC, and he is in his second year as an ISAB member. This year, he will serve on the ISAB Executive team as President, leading the board in all efforts for the 2023-2024 school year. He wanted to join ISAB because he knew it would connect him to a group of leaders across Clemson who all share a similar love for Clemson Athletics. In addition to ISAB, Ben is involved with the Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity and is a Thomas F. Chapman Leadership Scholar. In his free time, he loves to play games on Bowman with friends and golf.
