Classes
Basic Course
The basic course takes place during your first two years in college as elective courses. It normally involves one elective class or lab each semester. You will learn basic military skills, the fundamentals of leadership and start the groundwork for becoming an Army leader. You can take the Army ROTC basic courses without a military commitment.
ML I, Freshman class:
- Introduction to Army Leadership
- Army Customs and Traditions
- Military Operations and Tactics
- Goal Setting and Accomplishment
- Health and Physical Fitness
Sample Schedule: Freshman
- Military Leadership I (ML1010/1020)
- 2 PT (Fitness) hours/week
- 1 Class hour per week
- 2 Lab hours/every other week
- 1 FTX (Off-Campus Training)/ semester
- 1 Social Event
ML II, Sophomore class:
- Applied Leadership Theory
- Communications
- Principles of War
- Military Operations and Tactics
Sample Schedule: Sophomore
- Military Leadership II (ML2010/2020)
- 2 PT (Fitness) hours/week
- 1 Class hour per week
- 2 Lab hours/every other week
- 1 FTX (Off-Campus Training)/semester
- 1 Social Event
Labs common to all basic course cadets:
- Rock climbing wall
- Combat water survival
- Rappelling
- Drill and Ceremony
- Land navigation
- Marksmanship training
- Lectures by Army leaders
- Sports Day
Note: The senior cadets conduct planning and execution for all battalion labs.
Advanced Course
The advanced course takes place during your last two years in college as elective courses. It normally includes one elective class or lab each semester, plus a summer leadership camp. You will learn advanced military tactics and gain experience in team organization, planning and decision-making. To benefit from the leadership training in the advanced course, all cadets must have completed either the basic course or have attended the leader's training course. Entering the advanced course requires a commitment to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army after you graduate.

ML IV, Senior class:
- Training the Force
- Military Justice
- Ethical Decision Making
- Personnel Management
- Cultural Awareness
- Post and Installation Support
- Military Operations and Tactics

- Fireteam movement
- Squad tactical training
- Platoon patrolling
- Combat water survival
- Drill and Ceremony
- Land Navigation (Orienteering)
- Marksmanship Training
- Sports Day
Note: The senior cadets conduct planning and execution for all battalion labs.
