Vincent Blouin holds a joint appointment in the School of Architecture and the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The main goal of his research is to bring the technical aspects of materials science and engineering to architecture to increase building performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability. His expertise includes experimental characterization of materials and numerical modeling of multi-physics problems (fluid, thermal and mechanical). His current research focuses on developing design guidelines for integrating new technologies in buildings for monitoring and improving environmental conditions, lighting, acoustics, and indoor air quality. Other activities include studying the ecology of construction materials and the design and optimization of structural systems.
