Placemaking for the Built Environment

Edward Kinney is a licensed landscape architect with over twenty years of urban design experience who currently manages the Urban Design Division for the City of Greenville, SC. Edward worked as a private consultant for ten years before joining the city in 2013. He has projects in the Southeast, New England, the western states, and Canada. His projects have included urban planning and design, master planning for main streets, housing developments, commercial and mixed-use developments, park design and construction, streetscape design, resort amenity design, and zoo design. Edward was instrumental in the rewriting of Greenville’s SC APA award-winning development code, with a focus on affordable housing, environmental preservation, and the aeronautic overlay district. Edward was appointed to the SC Board of Landscape Architectural Examiners by Governor Nikki Haley in 2015 and reappointed by Governor McMaster in 2019, and 2023 where he currently serves as vice-chair. He also serves on the Board of Directors for CLARB, the national licensure organization which oversees licensure for all of North America.
