Welcome to the Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) program.

We are an established accredited planning degree program, accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB), that has been teaching graduate planning classes for over 50 years. We have a great mix of senior, junior and international faculty members who are recognized scholars in their perspective fields.

What differentiates us from other PAB Planning degrees is that we are a smaller program that focuses on developing professional planners. By being a smaller program, students realize four benefits:

  • Outstanding distribution of scholarships and paid internships. Over the last 3 years, 100% of our students that requested funding received full funding for two years. (This is not a typo.)
  • As a result of our scholarship capacity and our great faculty, we have a remarkable and internationally diverse student population. The vast majority of our MCRP student population received their undergraduate degrees outside of South Carolina and the United States. This past year we had a Fulbright Fellow (Fiji) and two U.S. Navy Officers participating in the US Navy Graduate Education Voucher (GEV) program.
  • Small class size allows you to develop life-long relationships with faculty, staff, classmates and the profession through South Carolina APA Chapter members. Check us out on Facebook and Instagram.
  • You get to develop your own personal planning professional expertise through a Terminal Project or Thesis. All MCRP students are required to complete a Terminal Project or Masters Thesis to graduate. Here, you take everything you learned in class and internship and do original professional level work or research on a topic and skillset you want to apply in your future Planning career. So, if you want to be an expert on bicycle planning in Puerto Rico and apply an extensive GIS analysis to support your planning recommendations, you can do that here.

The MCRP program is embedded in an incredible learning environment. Clemson University is regularly ranked in the top 25 public universities in the country. The Blue Ridge Mountains with world-class hiking, kayaking and fishing are a 20-minute walk from your classroom. Greenville, SC has won numerous awards for being one of the best mid-sized American cities and is only 40 minutes from Clemson campus. And the beautiful South Carolina coast and Charleston are only a 4-hour drive.

Cheers,

John Gaber, Ph.D., AICP
