My moving wall focuses on a hinge movement, which allows the wall to fold, spin, and create spaces inside of itself. This hinging motion creates an infinite number of possible spaces, and even allows the wall to move from one point to another. In my courtyard design, the wall gives visitors a glimpse of the possiblities by starting as an enclosed square and spiraling outwards and breaking apart. The wall rotates following tracks in the ground, which also create the outline of an open boardwalk that connects all of the entrances to Lee Hall and Lowry Hall. The courtyard layout encourages visitors to interact with it since the wall stands in the way of main walking paths. Visitors must either walk through the wall or push it along a track to move it out of the way. While the wall’s main movement is its rotation, the extruded pieces also slide in and out to serve as places to sit or climb on.
