Coastal Revival

Throughout the 2023 Fall semester, our studio has understood the rich tapestry of culture, history, character, beauty and opportunities woven into the fabric of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas. Our goal has been to envision and enhance various aspects of this town. My classmates and I have researched the intricacies of local nuances and distinctive attributes, encompassing site conditions, vegetation, wildlife, circulation, climate, history, culture, location, land use and more. At the conceptual development stage of our process, the theme “community health and vibrance” emerged and has since guided this coastal revival project.
The Coastal Revival project prioritizes community health and vibrancy, strategically uniting three sites: the bungalows, commons and gardens. By embracing the local charm and culture of Tarpum Bay, these sites seamlessly converge, creating a compelling sense of place. This project aims to cultivate lasting memories through an appreciation of the site’s natural beauty and a holistic embrace of its cultural richness. With a community-centric design, coastal revival envisions a waterfront awakening, transforming it into a culturally vibrant and healthy focal point for both locals and visitors alike.
