Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

While the main goal of establishing the Land-Grant Press Teaching Section is to share ideas that will improve teaching, we also hope faculty will develop an interest in social science to design research methodology for scholarly works suitable for publishing in national and international teaching journals.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the systematic study of teaching and learning, using established validated criteria of scholarship, to understand how teaching can maximize learning, and/or develop a more accurate understanding of learning, resulting in products that are publicly shared for critique and use by an appropriate community. These articles should be published in national teaching journals such as the NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) Journal or other teaching or professional society journals. Manuscripts are based essentially on research in teaching, on creative thought, such as theoretical models, and on case studies in which an experience is examined through a theoretical framework and the implications for application are fully explored.
