LGBTQ History at Clemson
- 1973 – Christine Jorgensen (first widely known sex reassignment surgery) speaks at Tillman Hall as part of Clemson’s Speaker’s Bureau program
- 1991 – Lambda Society recognized as non-funded CU org
- 1992 – Sexual orientation added as protected class to CU Non-Discrimination policy
- May 1996 – Lambda Society officially recognized and provided some requested funding ($50) after long battle with CUSG and pushback from College Republicans and Tiger Town Observer. (Service vs political group)
- 1999-2000 – Lambda Society changes name to Clemson Gay-Straight Alliance and becomes more of a social group
- 2003 – Safe Zone project created
- 2006 – CGSA same sex marriage rally, Clemson Conservatives counter protest without filing free speech zone request. All of campus designed free speech.
- 2009 – Clemson Alumni Society for Equality (CASE) chartered for networking and scholarships for LGBTQ leaders
- 2010 – CGSA receives advisor from Gantt Center
- 2010 – 1st Annual National Coming Out Day festival on the North Green
- 2011 – Campus Pride Index v1.0 score of 2/5 stars
- 2012 – LGBTQ Task Force is created
- 2015 – Campus Pride Index v2.0 score of 1/5 stars
- 2016 – CGSA changes name to CU Sexuality and Gender Alliance
- 2017 – LGBTQ Task Force becomes Commission
- 2017 – Campus Pride Index v2.0 score of 3/5 stars
- 2017 – Out in STEM (oSTEM) student group created
- 2017 – Athlete Ally chapter started
- 2017 – Rainbow, student group for LGBTQ students of color created
- 2017 – Inaugural Lavender Graduation
