Continued Growth
Computing has become ubiquitous in our society, and it now affects countless aspects of our daily lives. Applications of computing, once restricted to areas within science and engineering, now include agriculture, athletics, the arts, business, health care, and recreation. It is no surprise that computing is used in most academic disciplines at Clemson, and therefore, computer science must face the challenge of adapting its science and engineering to an increasing set of applications.
Academic Excellence
The School of Computing offers a full spectrum of programs that lead to Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Master of Fine Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy. Hands-on experiences through creative inquiry, faculty research, and professional organizations help to broaden and reinforce the classroom experience. Students can enrich their learning by choosing electives in areas such as 2D game engine construction, eye tracking methodology, human and computer interaction, mobile device software development, and virtual reality.
School of Computing majors have access to four dedicated instructional computer labs with 24-hour building access. In addition, high-performance computing and data analytics facilities are available through the Clemson Palmetto supercomputer.

Dan Roberts collected an M.S. degree from Clemson University 50 years after receiving his B.S. degree. Roberts plans to stay at Clemson to pursue a Ph.D. in human-centered computing. His path to a master’s degree showcases how a dedicated alumnus has continued to embody the University’s values and spirit throughout his life and underscores Clemson’s commitment to lifelong learning and welcoming all students regardless of age.
“Coming back and being involved with and contributing to Clemson was a life goal. I spent a career doing application development and software development and traveled a lot, so I wasn’t able to do as much as I wanted locally. But I said when that slows down, and my kids are grown, I want to work for or get involved with Clemson.”
