Minors
The School of Computing offers three minor programs to allow Clemson students the opportunity to add a technical component to their degree. Additionally, students can opt for a minor in cybersecurity, which is a part of the interdisciplinary Clemson University Cybersecurity Center.
Visit the Clemson Registrar's website on changing academic programs to find out information on how to declare or change your minor.
The official requirements for each program of study are listed in the official Clemson University Undergraduate Catalog.
A few helpful tips for students interested in a School of Computing minor:
Students are encouraged to declare a minor as soon as possible, preferably in their sophomore year, to allow for plenty of time to advance through pre-requisite chains. For instance, CPSC 2120 requires a two-semester sequence of introductory coursework as a pre-requisite. All three courses build upon each other and must be taken in order.
Clemson’s academic policies allow a single course to count for a maximum of two requirements. In some instances, a single course may be eligible to apply towards three requirements, and you can work with your academic advisor to select which two requirements you wish the course to fulfill.
Consider the following scenario: a BS-CPSC student wishes to minor in cybersecurity. For this student, CPSC 2920 (Computing, Ethics, and Global Society) is eligible to fulfill the CPSC 2920 and Global Challenges General Education requirement for the BS-CPSC degree as well as the CPSC 2920 requirement for the CYBE minor. This student will need to take an additional Global Challenges course so that CPSC 2920 is applying only twice: once to the BS-CPSC requirement and once to the minor.
In the DPA minor for certain majors, you will be required to take DPA 4000 and DPA 4010. Please note that DPA 4000 is typically offered during fall semesters and is a pre-requisite for DPA 4010, which is typically offered during spring semesters.
