The General Engineering department's key annual event is Major Discovery Night, a major exploration event hosted along with the Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi. During this time, students have the opportunity to meet and network with Clemson University engineering alumni in a variety of professional roles to guide them in selecting their major. All of the undergraduate departments in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences are represented, with faculty and staff of these departments in attendance also.
In addition to speaking with first-year engineering students, returning alumni can meet upperclassmen in Tau Beta Pi over hors d'oeuvres. All attendees hear a welcome from the Dean at the beginning of the networking portion of the event. The venue of choice to host this exceptional assemblage of new and old engineers is the high-tech Watt Family Innovation Center, Clemson University's cutting-edge addition to the main campus that is setting the standard for futuristic higher education buildings across the country.
Typically hosted in the springtime as engineering students prepare to choose their field, this event gives the General Engineering cohort a unique opportunity to acquire insight into numerous career fields and help them make a more definitive choice about their future.
