Summer Research Experience

Student Opportunities

Building Networks

The Clemson University Office of Undergraduate Research Office supports student participation in faculty-mentored research and professional development activities. For students participating in summer research at Clemson, we coordinate events and opportunities to engage with current undergraduate and graduate students about their research experience in any major.

As a student in Clemson's summer research program, you'll gain invaluable hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art facilities, working alongside renowned faculty and graduate students. This opportunity allows you to apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems, develop critical thinking and communication skills, and explore potential career paths in research and academia. You'll also benefit from Clemson's strong industry connections, potentially leading to future internships or job opportunities. Moreover, you'll build a network of peers and mentors while strengthening your resume for graduate school applications or future employment.

Program Activities

The Summer Research Experience Program supports highly qualified students to undertake interdisciplinary, supervised research projects at Clemson University for 10 weeks each summer. Activities include faculty-led seminars on a range of topics, a special workshop on applying and excelling in graduate school, plus social activities with students from each REU program.

Summer Showcase

Summer undergraduate research students will present their research at the REU Symposium Program. The end-of-summer REU poster session consists of students presenting their research results and conclusions at the Watt Family Innovation Center. Past research topics have included identifying gait behaviors exhibited by patients with Parkinson's Disease, establishing hellbender density in a creek in NC, and developing effective team strategies for high-stress environments.
