Along with research and community outreach, one of the Institute for Engaged Aging’s key focus areas is education. The IEA takes a multidimensional approach to education by teaching and training undergraduate and graduate students, giving education community talks and participating in the Faculty Speaking Series, and hosting educational programming at the IEA and in communities across the state of South Carolina.

Community Talks
The Institute for Engaged Aging (IEA) fosters community connections and promotes healthy aging through active engagement. Faculty Speaking Series
The IEA and its affiliated faculty are pleased to provide valuable knowledge that benefits the community. IEA affiliated faculty regularly deliver presentations to foster collaboration and promote learning across organizations, community groups, and other entities. As part of our Faculty Engagement Speaking Series, we provide engaging talks on a wide range of topics, including Improving Brain Health, Fall Prevention Among Older adults, and the Importance of Sleep, among others. These presentations are an excellent opportunity for individuals and communities to connect with IEA affiliated faculty.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Promoting experiential learning for undergraduate and graduate students is our focus. We provide hands-on research and outreach opportunities that empower students to:
- Receive dedicated mentorship from faculty and staff.
- Learn from one another in our interdisciplinary research labs. Our students hail from diverse majors, including psychology, biological sciences, health sciences, and education.
- Report greater confidence in both professional and interpersonal skills after working with older adults.
